There was no end of pressure from Mon Mothma to find another transport, any other transport to get to the system for a meeting on Bakura. But Leia had calmly discussed why this was a good plan, a solid plan and that Han had proven he was trustworthy. If had hadn't been he could have left any time after the battle of Yavin. But he'd stayed, if anything he'd become more involved with the rebellion.
And with Leia. When he'd been frozen and given to the Jabba the Hutt she had insisted on his rescue being arranged. When it was deemed a low priority she set about it herself. With the help of her friends and his she had managed to bring him home where he belonged. After that things had been awkward until the revelation that she and Luke were siblings. It seemed he had some honor in him after all and would have been willing to walk away had they been in love.
He wasn't exactly redeemed, but he had a new direction and she was going to encourage it as much as possible. If that meant entrusting him to this sort of escorting then so be it. And if that meant they spent time together, away from others, all the better.
"I will report back on schedule and with the code as we planned. If I don't report back you must consider me lost and do not risk sending anyone. We need concentration on other missions now and I am no more important than any other asset, is that clear?" Leia stood hardly to the shoulder of most of the men in her company, but none of them put so much as a toe out of line. Her word was considered law and even as they finished loading her things on to the Falcon they wouldn't second guess her, to her face.
One might have given Solo a coldly dismissive look as he sauntered down the gangplank to where Leia stood in her circle of fellow leaders.

She had admitted she loved him, and he'd said the same back, but they'd had little time alone since to figure out what that meant for them. That was why Han found himself looking forward to this little excursion probably a little more than he should be considering it was technically considered business.
The destination was business, but the getting there...
Departing the Falcon to join Leia, it was impossible not to feel the coldness, the distaste, rolling off the other leaders. Oh, he knew what people thought of the Falcon, and she proved them wrong every time. He also knew what they thought of him, and, well, he was working on that, not that he really cared. Bad mouthing him he could handle, but nobody got away with insulting his baby.
"Ready and waiting, princess," he said, grinning at the others gathered.

Date: 2016-01-27 05:40 am (UTC)They had been safe dalliances, easily men she could have on her arm when necessity dictated she appear like any other woman of a noble house or a member of the senate. They were, in all honestly, simply a cover to allow her to get on with what really mattered to her. In the Rebellion she found her true calling and purpose and that was, of course,w here she found Solo.
He was rough around the edges, putting it kindly. But he challenged her, he spoke to her as an equal and had no trouble telling her she was wrong. That sort of fight was something most lacked. Countless men far stronger than he had backed down when she stood her ground, but not Han. And, though she might never admit it aloud, he was often right.
Case in point, the Falcon, it was a ship that others misjudged by look alone. And like him inside was something completely unique. And there he was, walking with the swagger of self confidence that he never seemed to lack. Her lip curled at the corner before she drew it to a thin line to address the others again. "Thank you, now if you will all excuse me, my ship is ready." She dipped her head toward the assembly and then turned her back on them.
Her voice dropped low as she neared the former smuggler. "Don't enjoy this moment too much, Solo." The glares he received in the wake of her retreating form cold almost be felt. Leia Organa may have made her choice, but it seemed not everyone was happy about it.

Princess Leia Organa, one of the most important people in all the galaxies, trusted an old smuggler like him to keep her safe. It was definitely a boost to the ego, but it was more than that. It made him want to do everything he could to deserve that trust. It was a strange feeling.
"Don't worry, fellahs. I'll get her back to you mostly in one piece," he said, unable to resist, before turning to follow Leia up the ramp. "Who, me?" he tried innocently.

Date: 2016-02-06 03:09 am (UTC)They had plans for her, a future of diplomatic usefulness that would ultimately culminate in her marriage to someone high ranking enough and powerful enough to make a solid ally. Leia had her own ideas for her future, and they didn't involve being pushed or bullied into any bond not of her own choosing. She'd already given much of her life in service of the republic, as crumbled as it was. She'd devoted herself to the Rebellion and watched her own home burn and fall to no more than dust at the hands of the Empire.
In the end she would make the best choice, but it would be her choice. It would be her value of what was best, not a committee or any other person.
"Hey Chewie." She reached a hand up to pat the large and high furry shoulder of Han's right hand and partner in crime. She was drawn into a smothering hug in return. A series of wuffling soft cries greeted her. She was spending enough time around them to start to understand a bit of the Shyriiwook language. "It's good to see you too," Though her voice was muffled by thick fur. "What?" She slipped away with a gentle pull and the wookiee was practically beaming, a look which was intimidating when one smiled with that many large, sharp teeth.
"You're going home? Han's going to fly this thing without you? Is it too late to back out?" She joked and chewy snorted a laugh before stepping past to ready the Falcon for flight. So, it was just going to be the two of them after they dropped of Chewbacca, interesting.

There were a dozen faces he wouldn't miss seeing for a while. Hearing the conversation behind him, he almost winced. Well, there went waiting until they were en route to break the news.
"Looks like you're not the only one taking advantage of this little trip," he said, turning to follow Chewie into the cockpit. "If I'm gonna be a ferry service maybe I should start charging."

Date: 2016-02-15 01:39 am (UTC)"Is that what you are?" She smirked and followed the pair. Leia leaned with a hand on the back of both of their seats and looked out the view shield. She was going to get away, sure there was something of a mission to it, but this was a bit of freedom. No meetings, no late night coms from this group or that or updates on the latest residual empire hold out action. This was almost a vacation, the last time she'd been was...
She frowned, when had she last not had an agenda in her actions? Since before she had entered into service to the rebellion she was sure. It had been something with her and Winter and her father...a beach somewhere, wide cool lake with pretty birds and a sky that was the color of imagination. But she couldn't recall more than indistinct images.
Maybe Han was right all those times he told her she worked too much, too hard and too long. He did, after all, have his moments.
"What do you think Chewie, should I trust myself alone with him?"
The wookiee gave his friend a long and steady look before turned his massive head back toward Leia, he shook it with a resoundingly mirthful negative.
ack thought I'd already replied to this
Date: 2016-02-24 10:10 pm (UTC)Looking up at her for once from his seated position, he then turned his attention to Chewie and gave his most innocent look. Innocent wasn't something he pulled off very well, especially with the person that knew him better than anyone. When Chewie shook his head Han scowled. "Alright, fuzzball, stop messing around and let's get this bird in the air. And you might wanna find a nice place to sit down, highness, 'til we get outta here."
no worries, that's what psls are for
Date: 2016-02-25 03:57 am (UTC)Leia rolled her eyes when he called her that, she took a seat but even as she moved she spoke. "You don't have to-" Oh, he was doing it on purpose, he was trying to get a rise out of her. She pursed her lips and took the seat behind Chewbacca. "Wake me if anything interesting happens then, driver" She smirked and rested her head back against the seat, letting her eyes close. Much to her credit she didn't even laugh.

The take-off was nearly flawless, and only moments later they were on their way.

Date: 2016-03-06 12:07 am (UTC)She rested again, smiling at the captain as he took them up.
She reached a lazy hand over and rested it near the coms switch, already expecting the inevitable. Sure enough as soon as they were aloft and breaking atmosphere the static backed voice of Mon Mothma came through. Leia flipped the channel open. "Thank you for confirmation Mon Mothma, I'm afraid we'll be entering radio silence from here on out. Thank you." She flipped the com closed with a note of finality.

Date: 2016-03-06 01:06 am (UTC)Once they were free and clear Leia wasted no time in cutting off further communications with base leaving Han both surprised and impressed. Communications could be dangerous, of course, but he hadn't expected her to be so abrupt. He was liking the idea of this trip more and more by the second.
"At least they'll have 3PO to keep them company with their hand wringing when they start to get worried," he said, checking the ship's course before relaxing back in his seat.

That should keep him occupied and them bogged down." That was a bit of brilliance on her part. Knowing how to play people or droid's strengths was something that she was gifted at. Perhaps that explained how she was able to see the potential in one cranky smuggler before he even saw it himself.
